Here are some more items from the EMC archives. The two pictures are from a meeting of the Northwood New Music Society in 1967. The first picture shows Alan Cutts, viola, and Christopher Hobbs, piano. The second shows Hobbs (then 16) working on preparations inside the piano. What were Hobbs and Cutts playing? Was the duo picture of a different piece than the preparations picture? We’re not sure.
In the second picture, are you sure he wasn’t just checking the spark plugs?
Just giving it a little tune-up, Paul!
“Just” as in intonation?
I have just come across this website and the photo. I knew them very well. They played in the same ensembles as I did as well as orchestras. However a flautist called John Shepherd conducted the Northwood New Music Ensemble and we performed a number of contemporary pieces including at my school Harrow County Girls’ School
Rachelle, it’s good to hear from you! What was your instrument – forgive my bad memory?
Hello Chris
Good to hear from you. I play the Violin. I think that photo was taken at my School Harrow County Girls’ School. I remember writing a critique about the Ensemble for my School Magazine. How are you keeping?
I’m well thanks, Rachelle – you should check out my Facebook page. Yes, you’re right about the venue. Wonder what it looks like nowadays?
