Francesco and Adam are travelling from Denmark for this special gig. Adam, Mark and Myself enjoyed a successful tour of Denmark in 2011 and with the addition of Sax, things will be very exciting indeed. Hope to see you there!

Cha, Cha, Cha!

Just uploaded today for your delectation — http://www.myspace.com/emcsystems — are a couple of test recordings from the first rehearsal of our new group, CHA (for Bruce Coates, saxes; Christopher Hobbs, piano, percussion, laptop, and whatever he feels like playing; and Virginia Anderson, clarinets). There was a rather nice and well-received improv night by CHA at Fizzle at the Lamp Tavern, Birmingham; there will be more to come from this group, especially on the EMC label. But this is a free taster. We hope it’s your cup of CHA!

New Hobbs No One May Have the Same Knowledge Again

If you’re in Nottingham this weekend, here’s late notice of a concert by the University of Nottingham Wind Orchestra and Contempo New Music Ensemble, on the subject of time and space. Along with Golden Oldies like the Star Wars theme and other family favourites, you’ll be able to hear Christopher Hobbs’ No One May Have the Same Knowledge Again in an entirely new, indeterminate version. Here’s the link to their Facebook announcement: https://www.facebook.com/events/350857671699152/?ref=3 .

Cage Water Music in Birmingham and the World

This might be fun:

As part of the Cage hundredth birthday festivities, the Forum for Contemporary Music, Leipzig is curating the event, Cage 100,http://www.cage100.com/english/cage100/information/. One of the main strands of the event is the Water Music Project: http://www.cage100.com/english/projects/water-music-project/infoseite/. This event will occur between 8-15 March in Leipzig and in several sister cities, including Nanjing, Bologna, and Houston, Texas, where various performers will present their version of Water Music. All events will be streamed live on the Cage 100 site.

Water Music (1952) is one of Cage’s most theatrical pieces of the time, requiring not just prepared piano, but also various toys, whistles, and radio sound.

EMC founder Christopher Hobbs will spearhead the show from Birmingham, England, at the Ikon Gallery, where he will perform amidst an exhibition of the work of the Russian artist Timur Novikov. Details for this event are here: http://www.ikon-gallery.co.uk/programme/current/event/757/water_music/ . It should be a fun show!

William C. Wright music

This might be of interest to those of you in the Chicago area:

Hello to all!

I am writing to alert you to the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation’s “Break the Box” series and its opening event of 2013 — a lecture-performance celebrating the release of “The Music of William C. Wright,” a first-ever recording of the compositions of Frank Lloyd Wright’s composer-father. More information can be found here:
Hope to see you there! (And if you know of other potentially interested parties, please feel free to spread the word!)
Thanks much!
Sincerely,

Look at what the Italians did!

A few weeks ago, we posted a note about a concert led by Giovanni Mancuso in Venice, Italy, here: http://experimentalmusic.co.uk/wp/?p=237 . Well, some of the concert has been posted on YouTube, including some of Chris Hobbs’ PTO pieces. What wonderful hard work with such little tiny instruments. Thanks for the concert, Giovanni! Fondazione Querini Stampalia: Venti Nuovi. Né piano né forte _ mercoledì 19 dicembre _ dalle ore 19

Here’s something from the Laboratorio Novamusica in Venice, Italy. We didn’t get it in time to advertise it, but it’s really useful to hear that experimental and minimal music is live and kicking!
